TOEFL Modules

There are three versions of TOEFL:

Type Description
PBT (Paper-based Test) Older format, used before the Internet-based test was introduced.
CBT (Computer-based Test) Now obsolete and replaced by iBT.
iBT (Internet-based Test) The most common format, which includes Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing tasks.

Skills Tested

The TOEFL iBT® test measures :

  1. Academic Listening,
  2. Reading, Speaking,
  3. and Writing Skills

from intermediate to advanced levels. Test takers are asked to perform tasks that combine more than one skill, such as: Read, listen, and then speak in response to a question.

TOEFL Scoring

The TOEFL iBT test is scored on a scale of 0 to 120 points. Each of the four sections (Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing) is scored separately. The total score is the sum of all sections, with a maximum possible score of 120 points.
